SEA Committee Mission Statements
Industry Liaison COMMITTEE UPDATE
The mission of the SEA Industry Liaison Committee is to facilitate communication between sewing retailers and educators by establishing methods and best practices for joint ventures in sewing education and to provide a forum in which retailers and educators come together. This continued conversation between the dealer and educator directly benefits the growth and prosperity of the sewing industry, and provides a direct link to consumers seeking a creative outlet through sewing.
Youth Sewing Committee COMMITTEE UPDATE
Our mission is to expose today’s young people (ages 8 – 24) to the joy and life skill of sewing by positioning this craft as a fun and trendy way to make a statement, to be individual, and to express creativity. We will work to drive these future enthusiasts to the local sewing machine dealer by promoting the dealer’s ability to educate, nurture, provide superior customer service and carry these new customers throughout their sewing lives. Above all else, we will encourage these new customers to explore freely, without rules, their ability to be creative and to use sewing as a form of self-expression, economy, and community.
Certified Sewing Educator COMMITTEE UPDATE
This program is an important step in advancing the sewing industry to greater profitability and broader public awareness. The sewing educator’s certification program (CSE) will develop quality teachers in the sewing industry. The focus is to create a program that offers a sense of honor to those who achieve the SEA Certified Sewing Educator designation. Furthermore we will implement a program that brings teachers to the industry that truly educate and inspire others to sew. The above goals will be realized with a solid foundation in business, that develops an understanding that sewing educators should serve both the consumer’s and the retailer’s interest, thereby supporting the sewing industry as a whole.
Membership
The mission of the SEA Membership Committee is to promote the Sewing Educators Alliance, and encourage professional sewing educators to become members of SEA. We will work to involve appropriate sewing related companies as corporate sponsors of SEA, helping to propel the direction of SEA forward. This committee will continue to promote SEA as a forum for professional sewing educators to have a voice in the industry, network among their peers, and to be actively involved in SEA as well as the sewing industry.
