SEA Certification Committee Update
Reported by Janet Pray,
SEA Certification Committee Chairperson,
and president of Islander Sewing Systems
and the American Sewing Expo |
The past several months the SEA Certification Committee has been working together to fine tune the Certified Sewing Educator (CSE) program and designation that was established last year. Several individuals have been taking classes toward this certification, and as a result, a few other issues have been identified that warrant attention.
In the upcoming months the SEA Certification Committee plans to work on the following details of the certification program:
• We are now working on a list of teachers that will be given faculty certification status as SEA members. These teachers are those who have received high acclaim for their teaching and business skills in the sewing industry. These will also be teachers whose classes will be listed as CSE certification classes.
• We are also working to develop a comprehensive list of teachers, classes and locations where points toward CSE certification can be acquired.
• The committee is looking to develop a “sewing experience” credit process. We see this as a written application used by a teacher who feels that they have vast experience in teaching sewing and would like that taken into consideration toward the point system of the CSE certification.
As this certification program moves forward, our committee will review other established certification programs and sewing convention classes for reciprocal credit toward the CSE designation. For your sewing program to be considered for CSE credit points, contact SEA, 1-800-4-SEWING.
